It takes a quick look and no more than 30 seconds to evaluate a person we are meeting for the first time. In such a short time, others form an opinion about us based on our appearance, body language, our behavior, manners, clothing. These first impressions are very difficult to overturn and often set the tone of the relationship that will be built.
“There’s never a second chance to make a first impression.”
In less than a tenth of a second, when we see someone for a first time, our brain processes information about this person, their overall appearance- which leads to quick conclusions about their character, temperament, qualities. According to a study, published in Psychological Science, this trend dates back to ancient times when, in order to survive, humans had to quickly assess whether the unknown person they meet posed a threat or would be a future ally.
Most people believe in the first impression they’ve received, although it could be misleading, it forms the image of a person.
